No No's (Two things you
should avoid)
1. Hydrogenated Oils
Most European countries have banned it, yet
America has used it in almost everything we eat. I am talking about hydrogenated and
partially hydrogenated oils. Hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils have been linked
to diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Nearly 500,000 Americans die of coronary
heart disease every year. No wonder cholesterol levels are so high in so many people.
Hydrogenation causes liquid oils to become solid at room temperature causing the oils to
become loaded with trans-fatty acids.
You may be asking what you should eat if
everything contains hydrogenated oils. When we buy breads, crackers, cookies among other
items, we buy from our health food store assured they do not contain these harmful oils.
When I cook, I use only cold pressed extra virgin olive oil,
(which should not be heated to high temperatures), or I will use butter
or a special non-hydrogenated, crisco-like palm oil I get from my health food store. Take
the time to do some research on this poison and make sure to read your labels. If you really want to feel great have lots of energy and stay healthy, there are three most important things you can do for yourself and your family. 1. Cut out all hydrogenated oils and partially hydrogenated oils. 2. Add the right oils to your diet such as flaxseed oil and coconut oil. 3. Cut out all refined products, especially refined sugars. Do a search on Dr. Johanna Budwig. She was one of the worlds leading expers on oils and fats. She also has an excellent cookbook with easy recipes using flaxseed oil and coconut oil that you can purchase on amazon.com. Dr. Budwig successfully cured cancer and other diseases with a special flaxseed oil/cottage cheese recipe. This was truly an amazing woman. She died in 2003 at the age of 95. A few good
articles on this subject are listed below.
2. Refined Sugar
Did you know, refined sugar has been
directly linked to osteoporosis? It literally eats away at the teeth and bones. Some have
said sugar is a drug almost as addictive as heroin. Mental and emotional disorders are
often linked to sugar in the diet, since sugar creates an imbalance of neurotransmitters
in the brain. Before 1890, the average consumption was only 5 lbs. per person per year,
when cardiovascular disease and cancer was virtually unknown. You can read more about the
dangers of refined sugar in the articles listed below.
In our family, we use honey
to sweeten our teas, coffee, and I even use it when baking. If a recipe calls for 1/2-cup
sugar or less, leave out the sugar and use the same amount of honey.
When you replace sugar with honey, cut the liquid by 1/4 cup. If
your recipe calls for one cup of sugar, use one cup of honey
instead and reduce the liquids by 1/4 cup. To prevent overbrowning or burning in your cake
and cookie recipes, lower your oven temperature by 25 degrees. Honey
is actually sweeter than sugar. It will take about a week or two to get use to the taste,
but soon you will want honey instead of sugar. Your sense of
taste will also improve as an added bonus.
Never give honey in any form to babies
younger than the age of two.
