Natural Remedies for Bronchitis
If you've ever had it, bronchitis is not fun. Bronchitis usually appears during or after a
cold, however if you will stop your cold the first day, you most likely will not get it. I use to get
acute bronchitis every year after a cold. However, since taking
care of my cold right away and using the remedy below, I have not
had bronchitis for years.
If you do get bronchitis for any reason,
start taking zinc lozenges the FIRST sign of it. Get zinc lozenges that are at least 14 milligrams. Dr Zinc® works best,
is much cheaper, and tastes great. You can find Dr. Zinc® at these stores: Hy-Vee, Leader
Drug, Marquee, Sun Mart, Health Mart, and Value Rite. This website (MyLeader.com) can help you locate a
store near you.
Zinc lozenges
always do the trick for us, however, for an extra boost to the immune system, you
can also drink echinacea teas or take the extract. If you do not have any mucus
present, eat lots of citrus fruits such as oranges or grapefruits. Also, make sure to
drink plenty of water.
You can also take an osha tincture. Take
10-15 drops in 1/4 cup water using it as a mouthwash only. Osha fights viruses when
used at the first sign of bronchitis.
Garlic is an
excellent remedy for bronchitis. It is antiviral, an expectorant, and has a powerful
effect on the lungs. The last time I started to get bronchitis, I immediately took 2
cloves raw garlic, peeled them, chopped them up very fine, and
put them into some salsa, and ate it with chips. A few minutes later my chest felt great!
If you don't like spicy foods, put it in anything you think you will be able to
eat. Make sure to let the crushed or chopped garlic sit for
about 10 minutes before taking.
If you or your children will not eat raw
garlic, a great way to get it into the blood stream is through the feet. For our
children's illnesses, we have mixed raw crushed garlic with
olive oil, rubbed it on the bottom of their feet and put socks on them right before bed
until morning. Garlic absorbs right through the bottom of the
feet, and into the blood stream within a few minutes. Caution: Garlic can cause severe
skin burns. Watch for any signs of burning or blistering when using this remedy. Never
leave raw garlic without olive oil on the skin longer than 20 minutes.
*In addition, it has been proven in studies
that garlic drops in the nose kills the cold virus and clear up the chest. There is
however an easier way to do this. We grind up about half a BULB of garlic, skins and all,
and pour a cup or two of boiling water over this and with a towel over the head, we breath
this garlic steam in through the nose and mouth alternatly. This is also good for clearing
up congestion and coughs.
The following remedy will soothe a cough
almost immediately.
Put 1 can of chicken broth in a saucepan.
Add 1-2 cloves finely chopped garlic. (Be sure to let the chopped garlic
sit for 10 minutes before adding.)
Add a few pinches of thyme. (Thyme is an
expectorant and a germ killer.)
Heat to almost boiling
Breath in steam. Drink as soon as it has
cooled off enough to stand.

Garlic is also a
blood thinner, so be sure to ask your doctor before taking it if you are on any blood
thinning medications or if you are about to have surgery of any kind.
